C.H. Robinson Opens 400,000-Square-Foot Logistics Facility in Texas

September 13, 2023

C.H. Robinson announced September 11 that it had opened a new, 400,000-square-foot logistics facility in Laredo, Texas as the company expands its presence along the border of Mexico to 1.5 million square feet.

According to Yahoo! Finance, the venue has been outfitted with 154 dock doors that can support up to 700 trailers at any given time, making it one of the largest cross-docking facilities in Laredo, Texas.

"It typically takes three trucks to bring a shipment through Laredo. A Mexico carrier brings the trailer to the border, a Mexico transfer carrier takes it across, then the freight is unloaded and reloaded onto a U.S. carrier’s trailer," said Mike Burkhart, C.H. Robinson’s vice president for Mexico. "Because our cross-dock is significantly larger than most, has more dock doors than most and has dock doors on both sides, we can immediately unload freight when it arrives. It also reduces the reloading time, because forklift drivers don’t have to crisscross the building. On a day when 350 loads are being picked up, if you reduce load time by an average of 10 minutes, that saves nearly 60 hours in one day."

C.H. Robinson said that it manages over 1 million trucking, ocean, intermodal and air shipments annually at the Mexico-U.S. border.
